Ask a welding question directly

You type your question in plain language, as you would put it to a colleague: standards and certification, a production non-conformity, WPS coverage, material and process selection, or the requirements buried in a specification. The assistant knows the field, from EN 1090 and ISO 3834 to ISO 5817, EN ISO 15614-1, ISO 9606-1 and PED 2014/68/EU.

There is no waiting for office hours and no need to translate your question into code language first. A photograph of a weld with the question whether it looks acceptable is a perfectly good starting point.

Smart intake: the right follow-up questions

A sound welding answer depends on the right data, so the assistant asks targeted follow-up questions, much as a specialist would on the telephone:

• Which parent material and thickness are involved
• Which welding process and position apply
• Which standard, execution class or specification governs the work
• Is there documentation such as a WPS, drawing or inspection report

Within a few minutes this builds a complete picture, saving rounds of email and ensuring the specialist who picks up the question has everything to hand.

A first technical indication, not formal approval

Based on the intake, the assistant gives a first technical indication: which standard appears to apply, which direction the answer is heading and what information is still missing. That is often enough to settle a shop-floor debate or sharpen an enquiry.

We are equally clear about the limits: this indication is not a formal approval, not an inspection result and not a substitute for assessment by a competent person. Decisions on acceptance, repair or release should rest on an answer reviewed by our specialist, or on an inspection on site.

Upload documents for context

In welding, the truth almost always sits in the documents. During the intake you can therefore attach files directly: a WPS or WPQR, a drawing with weld symbols, a material certificate, an NDT report or photographs of the joint in question.

The assistant uses them to clarify the question; the specialist uses them for the substantive review. Your files are used solely to handle your question and are not shared with third parties, so commercially sensitive documents can be submitted with confidence.

Review by an experienced specialist

Every answer that becomes formal first passes an experienced DEHAAS welding specialist, who verifies the code references, weighs the practical side and adds nuance where the situation demands it. You always see who reviewed your question and on what grounds the answer was reached.

This safeguard is deliberately the heart of the concept. Welding has too many edge cases to rely blindly on an automated answer: a misread range of approval or a missed exception in a standard can cost serious money in production. The assistant accelerates, the specialist assures.

From question to expert review, inspection or quotation

Many questions are settled with one good answer. Where the situation calls for more, your question flows on without duplication to the appropriate next step: a full expert review of your documentation, an external welding coordinator on a standing basis, an inspection on site or a qualification project where coverage is missing.
