More about DEHAAS
DEHAAS is your external department for welding engineering, quality assurance and inspection, based in the Netherlands and working for clients across Europe and North America. For steel construction, machine building, shipbuilding and pressure equipment we provide welding advice, procedure qualifications, welding coordination to EN 1090, ISO 3834, ASME IX and AWS D1.1, and inspections at your site or at your supplier. One point of contact, short lines and reports you can act on straight away.
With the DEHAAS Welding & Quality Desk you ask your technical question online. You get a quick first answer, and where it matters an experienced specialist reviews the result before it goes into your project. The speed of digital self-service, combined with the certainty of real professional accountability.
A welding department without hiring one
Many manufacturers need a welding specialist now and then, but not five days a week. Hiring a welding coordinator is rarely viable for a company of ten to fifty people, while the questions keep coming: a customer demanding EN 1090, a procedure that does not match the work, a welder certificate that turns out to have expired, an inspection body asking for a dossier.
DEHAAS fills that role externally. We write welding procedure specifications, run qualification programmes, act as welding coordinator to ISO 14731, review documentation and carry out inspections, in your workshop or at your supplier. From Menaam in Friesland we work throughout the Netherlands, across Europe and on a project basis in North America.
What clients bring to us
The questions that reach us are rarely abstract. They concern a procedure qualification needed for an order, whether an existing WPQR still covers the work package, the review of an NDT report whose conclusion does not hold, or a gap in the quality system that surfaced during an audit.
- WPS and WPQR: procedures that match the actual work, and a qualification plan covering as much as possible with as few coupons as possible.
- Welding coordination: the ISO 14731 welding coordinator role, with a documented allocation of responsibilities that a notified body accepts.
- Inspection and QA/QC: visual weld inspection, NDT coordination, vendor inspection and third party inspection.
- EN 1090 and ISO 3834: setting up or restoring the FPC system, gap assessment and support during the audit.
- Remote document review: assessing a procedure, a qualification record or a complete dossier without anyone having to travel.
The standards we work within
Welding is regulated in detail, and which standard governs depends on what you make. For load bearing steel structures that is EN 1090-2 with execution classes EXC1 to EXC4. For pressure equipment, PED 2014/68/EU with EN 13445 or AD 2000. For welding quality assurance, ISO 3834; for welding coordination, ISO 14731.
Alongside that we work daily with ISO 15614-1 for procedure qualification, ISO 9606-1 for welder qualification, ISO 14732 for operators, ISO 5817 for quality levels, ISO 17637 for visual testing and ISO 9712 for NDT personnel. In projects with an American basis those are ASME Section IX and AWS D1.1. If you serve both markets, we set up qualifications to satisfy both.

Knowledge centre and glossary
Our knowledge centre answers the questions work planners, engineers and QC staff face every day, from the difference between a WPS and a WPQR to calculating heat input and selecting the right NDT method. The glossary gives the meaning of each term as the standard defines it.
